Team Fortress 2
Team Fortress 2 is finally available after being delayed since it was first announced in 1998. Having been around first seeing what team fortress was on the Quake engine and now on an updated Source Engine, it’s one of the best looking Source Games yet.
The game itself is very fun with 9 distinct classes to choose from that can fit almost anyone’s playing style. The ultra fast scout makes a great runner for capturing points, but has little health to stand up in a fight. The Sniper is very effective at long range, but only with a patient shot, as the game reduces the damage done from quick shots. The demoman has great grenade launcher to ward off enemies at a distance, and also a powerful weapon that launches sticky grenades that can be remotely fired. The pyro has a flamethrower that makes players run away as its effect will burn you for a few seconds after an encounter. The heavy weapons guy moves rather slowly, but has a powerful gun that takes a second to spin up to fire. He’s often seen with a medic at his side. The medic class is mostly defensive as his primary role is a healer to offensive players with a rather simple tool that doesn’t require facing the player being healed to be effective. The spy is a great all around class becuase it’s stealth cloak allows him to sneak past enemy turrets and guards and enter the hearts of the bases. The spy also has the special ability to disguise himself as the enemy to infiltrate the enemy’s base. The engineer class can build refilling dispensers to heal and recharge ammo on the battlefront as well as build turrets that can stop almost anyone who gets within range. The solider is that final class and uses a rocket launcher as his primary weapon. Even though the rockets move slowly in the air, they have a wide splash damage area and can be seen both defending and on the offensive.
I’ve played all the classes and my favorites are the sniper and the spy. Both classes allow me to eliminate key players while defending our own objectives. You can often see me playing a mix of all the characters available as they all have distinct advantages and disadvantages, with no one character being unstoppable. It is nearly impossible to succeed on any map without good team work and a mix of player classes.
Team Fortress 2 will definitely be played at the next lan party being hosted. I can also be found playing online under the name “bungee” with a flame as my avatar.
